Membership Application and Renewal Form The CMDA® uses the dog information you provide below to maintain statistics on the development of the breed. Any information you offer is used for internal purposes only. If you are renewing a membership, please complete the application again so we can keep our files current. Because the Colorado Mountain Dog breed is still a new and growing breed, it is based on a generational registry in order to bring the dogs closer to the ultimate CMD standard. There are 4 Types of CMDA® registration certificates:
"Foundation Dog:" This type of dog is the first of a genetic line that was approved by the CMDA®. In order to become a registered breeder, it must have gone through a breeder-dog approval process, including a basic veterinary physical exam, after 1 year of age. It must also be a proven, working livestock guardian. (DNA testing required.)
"F2 Generation:" This type means one parent is a “Foundation Dog”, and the other is "Foundation Dog" or later.
"F3 Generation:" one parent is “F2” type, and the other is "F2" or later.
"F4 Generation:" one parent is “F3" type, and the other is "F3" or later.
"Purebred:" The 5th generation in a genetic line. Both parents are "F4" type or "Purebred" type.
Every dog registration certificate is assigned a “Generational Type,” which is listed on your registration document. In addition to the generational type, each new puppy registration is automatically classified as a “Non-Breeding Animal,” until the generational type reaches “Purebred” classification. A “Non-Breeding Animal” can be re-classified as an approved “Breeder” after it reaches 1 year of age. (PennHIP testing required, between 12 and 24 months of age. At 2 years, OFA testing is required.) To register a dog, you must submit the appropriate application and application fee. We will email you forms.
If you have purchased a dog that is already registered with the CMDA®, you need to have a new registration certificate printed with the new owner's information.
